What's What > Hairbat #1 (1) > Hairbat #1
Larry Powell has issues. The sort that get psychiatrists drooling and the meds flowing. The root of his problems, so to speak, is hair. More specifically, hairCUTS.
After watching his father die in a freak barbershop accident, six-year-old Larry develops a mortal fear of haircuts. Various treatments, ranging from administering powerful sedatives to hypnosis to electro-shock therapy, have little effect on his acute phobia.
So it is that as poor Larry grows, so does his hair. And as his hair grows, so too does his pariah status amongst his peers. It would appear that the stage is set for Larry to lead an unremarkable adult life. But everything changes the day a large, talking bat crashes through the window, ensnarling itself in Larry's locks.
Oscar, Larry's hairbat, is foul-mouthed and despicable, and within minutes manages to humiliate Larry in front of Tracey Reynolds, his childhood crush, and get him fired from his supermarket job. Soon after, Larry has a run-in with Buddy Thornton, an old high school bully with designs on Tracey.
If Larry thought he had problems before, the worst is still to come...
